There is something very adorable about the small town setting of Lookout Mountain, home to both Ruby Falls and Rock City. All of the roads are narrow and winding and all of the houses seem like they're out of a fairy tale, and there really is nothing like being at a higher altitude where it seems like the air is fresher and the trees are greener.

Rock City is actually located in Georgia state lines whereas Ruby Falls is located within Tennessee and both are important and historic parts of both of the towns they are located in.

A few of the really amazing things about Rock City has to be the unique rock formations, the 200ft swinging bridge, the hundreds of botanicals that are labeled in care curiosity hits and of course, being able to see a beautiful horizon with 7 different states in view. If you are not one of the people who wants to go underground to appreciate a waterfall, there is also an amazing 100ft waterfall at Rock City, (though you would be unable to get too close to it).

There is also an enormous cave with many twists and turns filled with animations of childhood nursery rhymes and old stories from The Three Little Pigs to The Cow Who Jumped Over The Moon as well as dozens of gnomes everywhere due to the original owners of the estate loving gnomes as well as folklore.

Traveling through the entire gardens is definitely a hike so be sure to wear comfortable shoes, light clothing during the summer, bring a lot of water, and a good camera because the sights are so beautiful. The story behind Rock City is an interesting one, to read about it some more click here!

Ruby Falls is actually located within Lookout Mountain and was named after the lead discoverer of the falls’ wife, Ruby. The falls are 145ft and are illuminated by colored LED lights and take about 30 min to reach from the start of the underground path. Throughout the path, tour guides tell the history of the discovery of the falls as well as point out interesting rock formations that are also illuminated by colored LED lights.
